Rackets & Runners: A brief history

1978

Brothers Lex and Fred Hoos open original Rackets & Runners on Oak St in Vancouver.

Western Canada’s first sports speciality store opens. The focus from the very start was on great product, exceptional service, and proper fitting of running and court shoes, rackets and other sports gear. 

1980

Future owners discover R&R

Local Vancouverites Nadia, Vanda and Kevin become customers of Rackets & Runners and make it a regular destination.

1998

New owners, new era

Vanda and business partner purchase Rackets & Runners from Lex & Fred.  Brother-in-law Kevin Christensen becomes Store Manager. 

2004

All in the family

Vanda’s sister, Nadia, begins working at store as a footwear and bra fitting specialist and buyer.

2014

Vanda becomes the sole owner of Rackets & Runners.

Vanda, along with Nadia and Kevin as key leadership principals, become galvanized about Rackets & Runners future. Expert service and fittings, the best brands, and a dynamic community hub which encourages sport and fitness for any age and ability.   

2018

Rackets & Runners celebrates its 40th anniversary.
