Let’s get the obvious out of the way first – this shoe is BUILT for comfort.
From the moment you put it on you can feel just how much the padded upper helps with step-in comfort. It fits true to size and this new mesh material provides greater security through the midfoot without squeezing too much in the toe box. Never once did I need to re-lace or adjust; I was happy with the fit each time I took it out.
It's important to note that a shoe's geometry can have a significant impact on how efficiently I run.
When I'm running slower, I tend to land further back on my heels, but when I pick up the pace I transfer weight to my midfoot. The Nimbus' thick cushioning combined with the rocker profile makes for such a uniform flex and feel, and that made it extremely adaptable to any change in my pace.
I also noticed right away how beneficial the outsole's additional contact grip was, especially during some of the crazy weather we have had over the past couple weeks. This a big improvement over its predecessor because you don't need to be as careful of where you step and you get more even wear across the outsole which improves durability. The foam materials don’t break down as fast, and the shoe has better stability.
Now to get a bit more technical – the shoe is heavier than its predecessor but it feels like a negligible difference on-foot. Keep in mind, this is more of a daily trainer made for longer recovery rides. It has over 40mm of stack height and its cushioning properties are are more in line with that premium comfort style than a lightweight, racey shoe. It competes with shoes like New Balance 1080, Mizuno Wave Sky, and the Brooks Glycerin, and while it may not beat something like the SC Elite in straight speed, it'll certainly last you longer.
